LT food supply shortage?

Yesterday a member of survivalboards.com reported an attempt to purchase canned butter from internet-grocer.com and was told the fedgov bought the entire shipment at the dock.
Another member noticed at the Mountain House website that nearly all the 10# cans were sold out.

My guess is either some gov shelters are being stocked for 'the upper crust', or preps for more middle east games are going on.

It's ok if they keep records. I ate mine already. And I can't buy more 'cause I squandered all the money I made selling my silver at a loss on booze.

I received an email from Survival Enterprises regarding the shortages. They said to buy food NOW, be it at Costco, or where ever. Makes you wonder.

Hi:

This is NOT spam. We send out only to our friends and customers. If you
do not wish to receive any further communications from Survival
Enterprises, there is a real (not phoney) unsubscribe link at the end of
this email.
======================================

Ladies and gentlemen, things are changing swiftly in the arena of food.

Shortages ARE real, and effecting most parts of the world. If you go to
http://www.beforeitstoolate.us you can see (scroll down a bit) the latest
"food" news from around the world and right here in the U.S.

Many of you that are reading this are not food customers of Survival
Enterprises. Even so, we care about you so PLEASE take this advice: BUY
FOOD NOW! I don't care where you buy - just do it before you can't. We went
to Costco, here in Coeur d'Alene, last night and they only had 4 bags of
rice left!

If you aren't sure how, or what, to buy, here's an article I wrote that
should be of help:
http://www.survivalenterprises.com/news.php?item.6

Prices are going up on some of our food products. Mountain House hasn't
raised prices yet, but (as of May 1) there will be a 3 month lead time to
get our orders from them.

If you go to http://www.dehydrated-food.net/blowoff.html you can see the
new prices as of tomorrow night. If you want to order at the current
prices, you have 24 hours. Any orders placed after tomorrow will be charged
at the new prices.

If you wish to read the rest of this post (it's longer), please go to
http://www.survivalenterprises.com/

into your browser)

Ive bought from this outfit before. Real nice people, up in Idaho I think. Called on the phone and spoke to them, real down home folks! I bought some canned butter and shortening a year or so back, when there were shortages.

Re: LT food supply shortage?

I called and talked to Survival Enterprises. Angie was really nice

I THOUGHT I'd done business with them before. They didn't have my name on file. So I went to their website. Then I KNEW I'd done business with them.

They USED to sell firearms. That's been almost ten years ago. They were in California. I purchased a pair of Ishapore SMLE's in .308. Great weapon at a rediculously low price.

I called back and spoke with Kurt.

Folks, KURT is the real deal. Fought that BATFE. Lost his FFL in the process but definitely gave them headaches, legally speaking. He's a great guy and I WILL be doing business with them again.

Re: LT food supply shortage?

Yeah, I remember when I ordered from them, Angie called me back later for some info, and I noticed She was calling from a (310) area code, which is the L.A. area. She was in Idaho, but with their phone service, was able to keep their number in Ca. Stuff got delivered quickly!

I did'nt contact Internet-grocer this AM (time zone thing) to verify this report.
I did visit the MH website and they are SOLDOUT of #10 can products.
This little bit of news finally motivated us to prep an area for 3 more 4'x24' "super beds" in the garden area today.
Good luck folks

bout to bail on the silver and fill a 10 x 10 room with food and water.

I suspect though in martial law, they will round everyone up and move them to camps and we can't take the food we stored with us that is those who go willingly, those that don't will be shot dead

Re: LT food supply shortage?

Mountain House is expecting their ship times to exceed 12 weeks by the end of April for #10 cans. They are receiving huge quantities of orders from the US Government and will now start limiting their #10 can production.

this is so scary to me it ain't funny. The government is buying them up so we can't plain and simple

Codger 04-18-2008 04:46 PM

Re: LT food supply shortage?

So an internet survivalist supply seller is telling you all that the "government" is buying all the canned butter but you can get in on the next shipment and you guys just accept it? What government agency? The government just doesn't come in to a place and buy all their butter. They have a procurement process and vendors bid for the sales. With no identification of the agency or any real facts I think a great deal of what you guys are hearing is from the hands of profiteers.

If it's not available, does it make any differece who is buying it up...
I think the main point is, If you want it, get it now or you may not be able to sometime in the future.
I have never bought Mountain House and don't plan on buying any, but there are a lot of people that might... If you don't want any, than don't buy any... but there is too much evidence of food shortages in the world
to blame increasing prices on profiteer's scare tactics.

Me too. They're trying to stir a panic so people will buy MORE. Why would they go around making announcements like this if they're trying to reduce order volume? :rolleyes_m:

you're right, the government is never quite so expidient to just up and buy mass product on the docks. They are either prepping for soemthing HUGE and imminent beyond all measure, or there is some serious dis-information going on.

These types of products from a company as big(or as small) as MH is likley NOT for military use...so what exactly is the "government" doing with them and why....and like you said...which agency is it?

Re: LT food supply shortage?

Whether it's profiteer tacticts or just the strange truth, there is one fact that nobody here can deny: Food prices are going up in terms of FRNs! Mountin House #10 cans have a 30 year shelf life. Even if you hold on to them for 10 years, then eat them, how much $$$ do you think you'd save? Who cares if it's scare tactics? I have a few #10 cans I purhcased last year and I plan to buy more soon. In fact, I was planning on doing it before I heard this news. If there's a famine, I'll survive. If not, I'll save on food in the future. It's not like it will go to waste. As for the butter, I still have a couple of cans.

That's exactly what you'd expect to happen when you burn 1/3 of the crop for fuel and hand out free money to everyone for no additional production.

uh dude did you read this on their homepage?

Due to EXTREMELY high customer demand and market volatility, our order processing time for most orders is currently taking
4 - 8 business days to ship. Orders with food or food units will take slightly longer. Some food items may temporarily be backordered.
Thanks for your patience!

Re: LT food supply shortage?

Nitro pak still has the cans, I ordered a few days ago. Some substitutions required though. I wasn't able to order the breakfast pack like I wanted - it's been sold out for a week or so. Also, they have some dehydrated food under their house-brand name as well, I believe.

Definitely it is odd to see the mountain house warehouse out of stock on nearly every #10 can, but I'm not sure I buy the gov prepping. I don't know how big a company mountain house is, but I'm guessing they produce enough in a year to feed only a few thousand people.

I also doubt the resellers are telling stories to keep the sales up. They're running low on stock, backordered on a lot of items, etc. - it's no good for revenue to run out. If it were scare tactics, you'd think they'd at least raise the price, because they can't increase volume without more inventory.

I have never delt with Mountain House, but I have done several orders with Honeyville grain for their cases of #10 cans of freeze dried food. http://honeyvillegrain.com/products/foodstorage.html
I have been very satisfied. Any amount ordered is $4.49 shipping and until April 21 they have a coupon of 10% off your entire order. Use the code "TROLLEY" when checking out. Both times I have ordered, I have received the entire order within 6 business days. I had a couple of dented cans from UPS on the first order and they shipped out replacements on my word the same day (recieved about 5 days later if IRC) and a postage paid sticker to return the dented cans. Very good customer service. No I am not affiliated with the company. I just think they do a good job at a reasonable price for freezed dried fruits, veggies, etc.

Seems like it might be a good time to set up a company to compete with Mountain House. I wonder how hard that could be?

However, in an interesting development, there is suddenly cases of the RF butter for sale on ebay--mostly from people in Northern Virginia. Now...what do you make of this?? More red flags ..

AMforPM 04-19-2008 02:19 AM

Re: LT food supply shortage?

I have seen it on ebay anytime I have looked, though that is just a few times. The seller has a wide enough range of products (that VA seller has an ebay store) that it raises no flags to me.

MREs and other emergency food is one category, and the butter is there, but then that ebay store sells a line of molds for concrete lawn ornaments too.

I do think more people are laying in storage food and a crunch is hitting the suppliers.

I expect the same crunch to hit seed suppliers and advise all to buy plenty of garden seed. If you can give seed to family and community garden programs if it is out of stock, that will be an extremely positive contribution.

At the very least have 3 years seed for your own use in case you fail to make good seed your first try.

From Safecastle

Mountain House Cans Will be Tough to Come By in Two Weeks

Almost 100 3-Case MH Packages Sold in April So Far
For the last couple or three months, we have been working 14 hours a day, 7 days a week, responding to the strong demand for emergency storage food and many other preparedness products. I'm sure you don't need an explanation as to why that is happening.

Mountain House Freeze Dried Update

Our last message to members included a few details of upcoming Mountain House price hikes, and May 1 production-changeover issues that will result in 3-month backorders for MH cans. That is partly responsible for the surge in demand for Mountain House right now.

Regardless of those issues, we've been taking orders for food of all kinds, as the wise who have a few dollars to invest are locking in today's prices for tomorrow's needs.

3-Case Package Group Buy

As you know, for the month of April, we've been running our famous 3-case/18 variety group buy. Response has been immense. We've sold out of all our pre-ordered product to this point (two huge bulk orders). Folks who have placed orders--we are awaiting delivery of 3-case cardboard shipping sleeves to enable cost-effective shipping of the packages. As soon as they arrive, out the door those orders go! Hopefully that will happen by the end of the week.

The good news is that we will place one more bulk order before the end of this month to ensure those who still need to get their orders in can do so and receive their foods in a timely manner. We will not be able to do this kind of group buy again till fall. So if you want one of these 18-can variety packages, please act soon.

Also, if you have a larger quantity in mind--we can still get your Mountain House orders in now and get you your food in a matter of two to three weeks. (By May 1, all bets are off though.)

Remember--members should log-in to our new store BEFORE adding anything to their cart. Email me if you need your log-in info or if you have trouble. You can tell you are successfully logged in by scrolling down a bit on the homepage ... just above the "New Products" you'll find a personalized greeting if you are logged in. Again though--members have no worries--whether you are properly logged in or not--I manually run the payments and apply your discount whether it showed up in your cart or not.

Clue for all visitors--To see member prices, mouse-over the main image on a listing.

Last Call

We're about to start promoting a whole new line of storage foods that you will love, but in the meantime, consider this message as a last call for timely Mountain House can deliveries until late summer or early fall.
